Dr. Winsome Thompson is a licensed psychologist with expertise in providing evidence-based assessment and treatment for children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Dr. Thompson has successfully helped clients with anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders, bereavement, and other psychological challenges. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other evidence-based therapies to support individualized treatment goals. Dr. Thompson is also certified in Parent-Child-Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based treatment for young children with behavioral problems. In addition to therapeutic interventions, Dr. Thompson has extensive experience conducting psychoeducational and neurodevelopmental evaluations and prioritizes providing recommendations that will best support learning, academic, and professional goals.

Most recently, Dr. Thompson served as Director of Psychology Services for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Thompson has worked across inpatient and outpatient medical and psychiatric settings, as well as in community mental health settings and has extensive experience supervising psychology trainees. She has specific expertise in treating youth with cancer and other chronic illnesses and providing support to their families.

Dr. Thompson is a warm, thoughtful, and affirming psychologist. She enjoys collaborating with parents and forming strong and productive therapeutic alliances with youth of all ages. Dr. Thompson believes that much of the wisdom we seek to lead fulfilling lives or parent successfully is already within us. Dr. Thompson believes that her role is to highlight and help build upon that wisdom.

Dr. Thompson was born and raised on the island of Jamaica, in the West Indies. In her late teens she migrated to New York City. Dr. Thompson learned how to adjust to and navigate a different culture/country, in the crucial adolescent/young adult stage. This lived experience enhances her approach to helping individuals navigate various life challenges. Dr. Thompson is committed to exploring and understanding how personal, family, and cultural values can support psychological well-being.

Dr. Thompson received her bachelor’s degree in psychology (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from the City University of New York. She obtained her Master’s and Doctoral Clinical Psychology degrees at the University of Miami. Dr. Thompson completed her pre-doctoral internship at Citrus Health Network in Miami and her post-doctoral training in Pediatric Psychology at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Psychological Association, The Society of Pediatric Psychology, and the Holtz Children’s Hospital Pediatrics Bioethics Committee.
